Cathy Maritan is an Associate Professor at the Whitman School of Management, Syracuse University and during 2010-2011 a Visiting Associate Professor at the Tuck School of Business. She earned a Ph.D. in strategic management from Purdue University. Cathy Maritan's research on how firms build and use capabilities has been published or is forthcoming in leading outlets such as the Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, and Managerial and Decision Economics. She serves on the editorial boards of Strategic Management Journal and Journal of Management. She has won awards for her teaching and her research. She has long been an active SMS member and has been involved in the Competitive Strategy and Strategy Process Interest Groups. She also brings extensive business experience to her academic life. Prior to entering academia, she was a mining engineer and a corporate banker, working in North America and in Europe.
